Shake + It + Off

Whatever you think of Taylor Swift, she’s always had a knack of being able to laugh at herself. T Swizzle has a new look and a new album coming out. Of course, Taylor Swift has gone through lots of looks and styles, from country to pop, from “gangsta” to hipster. Should people be critical of her most recent change, or should people think that she should just shake off all this criticism? What are your thoughts about her newest vibe?

lyrics:

I stay up too late
Got nothing in my brain
That’s what people say
That’s what people say
I go on too many dates
But I can’t make them stay
At least that’s what people say
That’s what people say
But I keep cruising
Can’t stop, won’t stop moving
It’s like I got this music
In my mind, saying it’s gonna be alright
Cause the players gonna play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate
Baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break
And I think it’s gonna fake, fake, fake
Baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off, Shake it off

  1. I must say, this is not my particular cup of tea. I think she is better than this song. I find it a tad underwhelming. Not offensive or foolish, just lukewarm. But then I am not one to judge an album by a single song, so we shall see. In any event, I respect anyone who is willing to try something new, even if I would not choose that particular direction myself.

  2. It’s a tad too saccharine and easy for my tastes. It’s good advice overall. I mean why not just “shake it off” when people judge or criticize. But I actually think she’s a better songwriter than this. Yep, it’s catchy but I like the direction she had been going in that was a little more cerebral.

  3. I couldn’t tell you one thing about her. But this song has become a symbol in our house. We went to Toronto a few weeks ago, and they had this channel that showed music videos between shows (usually Simpsons and Family Guy, so we were usually tuned in during down time) and this video kept coming on. The song became a symbol for the trip, not because of the lyrics or the singer, but mostly because it was catchy and was stuck in our heads the whole trip. I think the song will still remind me of that fantastic vacation years from now.
