Ice Skating…

I guess growing up in a warm area doesn’t provide ample situations for an individual to experience putting on thin blades and wobbling onto a frozen body of water.

People always seemed so shocked when I would tell them that I had never ice skated before.

“What? Really?” “No way.” “Really?!?!” “Uh, uh.”

No really. It’s true. I had never ice skated before.

Now I’ve been twice… in a span of two years, of course. But now I can say that I’ve done it.

It was amazing and terrifying and freeing and liberating. It’s a pretty unique feeling.

I constantly had this fear that I would end up with a broken wrist and/or ankle by the end of the night. For some reason or other, though, I didn’t break anything. Thank goodness.

It’s because of friends, though, that I went in the first place. I wanted to try it and tagged along. They supported me. They held on. They held on tight and watched out for me so I wouldn’t fall or fail too much.

The first time I skated, I fell a few times.

The second time I skated, I only fell once. ONCE!!! Grand improvement, I know, I know. It shouldn’t be as big of a deal as it was to me, but it mattered.

Being supported by friends and family makes perseverance so much easier. They pushed and encouraged me to take new leaps and grow in ways I hadn’t before.

And that’s a pretty amazing feeling.

  1. Congratulations for trying something new! Congratulations for ice skating! It has been quite a few years since I have put on a pair of ice skates. Growing up, we would skate on lakes, ponds, and fields that the farmers would flood for skating. There was always a roaring fire so we could go get warmed up after coming off of the ice.

    • I know! Thank you so much for the congratulations. Your message just made my day! It made me smile, and I appreciate that you took the time to write this.

The description of you growing up sounds amazing. You’re lucky to have such special memories!

I hope to hear more from you! Have a beautiful day! ❤
